Seaborough B.V., a pioneer in nanoscience and luminescent technology, has joined forces with Luminus Devices, an established innovator in advanced lighting technologies, to introduce the first LED with nano-engineered Eu3+-based phosphor on a commercial scale. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the lighting industry, as it aims to revolutionize LED technology and bring high-quality, sustainable warm white lighting solutions to the market.
Through this collaboration, Luminus Devices gains early access to Seaborough’s proprietary phosphor technology, EuroLED™, which is designed to enhance the performance of LED lighting applications. By integrating Seaborough’s patented phosphor technology into its LED packages, Luminus Devices will accelerate the development of EuroLED™ and pave the way for the global launch of innovative LED lighting solutions.
EuroLED™ technology sets itself apart by offering a unique nano-engineered Eu3+-based phosphor solution that emits narrow-band red light. This distinctive feature allows EuroLED™ to deliver 10% to 20% more lumens per watt compared to traditional phosphors in the CRI 80-90 range, making it a more sustainable lighting option. Moreover, EuroLED™ is manufactured without the use of hydrofluoric acid and is not subject to oxygen restrictions, further enhancing its eco-friendly profile.
One of the key advantages of EuroLED™ is its utilization of nanomaterials, with particle sizes that can be precisely tailored to meet specific requirements, ranging from sub-100 nm to several microns. This flexibility in particle size and optical properties makes EuroLED™ a versatile solution that can be applied across a wide range of lighting applications, promising enhanced performance and efficiency.
Marie Anne van de Haar, CEO of Seaborough, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “After nearly a decade of research, we are thrilled to introduce our EuroLED™ technology to the market. Luminus Devices has been a valuable partner in this endeavor, and their early adoption of our Eu3+-based phosphor technology is a testament to our shared vision of driving innovation in the lighting industry. Together, we are poised to transform the landscape of solid-state lighting and usher in a new era of efficiency and sustainability.” Mark Pugh, CEO of Luminus Devices, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the transformative potential of Eu3+-based phosphor technology in advancing LED lighting efficiency and performance.
