STMicroelectronics is undergoing a significant transformation in preparation for the AI era. The company is implementing predictive qualification and fully automated processes for IP, library, test, and packaging. This strategic shift aims to streamline business operations and accelerate the development of new technologies.

According to Fabio Gualandris, president of manufacturing, quality, and technology at ST Microelectronics, the traditional approach to IP development posed challenges in terms of qualification. Gualandris highlighted the need for a new organizational structure, process improvements, and enhanced IP characterization to drive innovation.

ST is now focusing on partitioning IP, selecting suitable silicon, and integrating IP in a more holistic manner. The company is prioritizing predictive qualification to ensure the performance of its IP across different technologies. This shift in strategy is aimed at reducing time-to-market and optimizing return on investment.

The company's goal is to condense the development timeline for new technologies from two to three years to just three quarters. To achieve this ambitious target, ST is leveraging AI and digital twins to simulate product designs efficiently using massive computing power.

STMicroelectronics is also revamping its workforce structure to adapt to the changing landscape. Gualandris emphasized the importance of creating a future-proof organization that can quickly respond to market demands. The company is transitioning to a 'neuron organization,' where each employee plays a crucial role in fostering connectivity and innovation.
