ENNOVI has introduced a new cell contacting system specifically designed for battery manufacturers who prefer the pouch cell form factor. This innovative system incorporates FDC technologies to prioritize cost-effectiveness, reduce manufacturing cycle time, and facilitate the rapid release of gases in case of a thermal event.

Gustavo Cibrian, Product Manager at ENNOVI, highlights the benefits of the ENNOVI-CellConnect-Pouch cell contacting system. He emphasizes that this vertically integrated production solution enables the production of parts at a faster cycle time using hot lamination. The system's design eliminates the need for traditional plastic cell carriers, storage, molding lines, and heat staking processes, offering a more efficient and streamlined approach.

ENNOVI's advanced lamination technology plays a crucial role in ensuring the structural integrity and durability of battery packs. By utilizing flexible die-cut circuit (FDC) technology for low voltage signal traces instead of conventional flexible printed circuits (FPC), production time and costs are reduced while minimizing environmental impact.

The new system features an upper dielectric layer that incorporates FDC copper traces and a lower layer pre-cut to the shape of current collectors. Both layers are constructed from automotive-grade PI or PET materials known for their excellent electrical insulation and temperature stability properties. Through lamination, built-in fuse traces, surface mount fuses, and NTC temperature sensors are integrated, optimizing material usage and creating a sleek, thin design that enhances battery safety.
