dBm Result
Watt (W) and dBm (decibel-milliwatt) are both units of power, but they are on different scales. Watt is an absolute unit of power, while dBm is a relative unit of power relative to 1 milliwatt (mW).
To convert watts to dBm, you can use the following formula:
dBm = 10 x log10 (P/1mW)
where P is the power in watts.
For example, if you want to convert 1 watt to dBm, you would do:
dBm = 10 x log10 (1/0.001)
= 10 x log10 (1000)
= 10 x 3
= 30 dBm
So 1 watt is equal to 30 dBm.
Similarly, you can use this formula to convert any power in watts to dBm.
Here’s a table with some examples of power values converted from watts to dBm:
Power (W) |
Power (dBm) |
1 |
30 dBm |
5 |
37 dBm |
10 |
40 dBm |
25 |
44 dBm |

100 |
50 dBm |
250 |
54 dBm |
500 |
57 dBm |
1000 |
60 dBm |
As you can see, the dBm values increase as the power values increase, but the rate of increase is not linear – a doubling of power results in an increase of 3 dBm, not 1 dBm.
