A groundbreaking collaboration has been announced between Brilliant Labs and Alif Semiconductor, with the aim of shaping the silicon that will drive the next generation of AI-enabled smart glasses. The companies have committed to jointly developing technologies specifically tailored for intelligent and privacy-focused wearable devices.

The primary focus of the partnership will be on powering Brilliant Labs’ upcoming Halo Glasses with Alif’s AI-capable microcontroller platform. This strategic alliance is set to revolutionize the capabilities of smart eyewear by integrating cutting-edge AI technology directly into the devices.

Edge AI Revolutionizes Smart Eyewear

The Halo Glasses are set to be powered by the Balletto B1 MCU, an ultra-low-power microcontroller equipped with a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU). This innovative chip will enable AI processing to be carried out on the device itself, reducing the reliance on cloud connectivity and enhancing responsiveness and privacy.

By leveraging on-device processing, the system will support advanced features such as real-time translation and an AI-based memory system, all while maintaining low power consumption. The glasses are expected to offer up to 14 hours of battery life, addressing a critical challenge faced by wearable devices in balancing computational power with energy efficiency.

The shift towards on-device processing is gaining momentum in the wearable technology sector as users increasingly demand faster responses and enhanced data privacy. By moving workloads to the edge, developers can minimize latency and reduce the transmission of personal data off the device, enhancing user privacy and security.

Custom Silicon for Next-Generation Smart Glasses

Beyond the initial Halo platform, Brilliant Labs and Alif Semiconductor have ambitious plans to collaborate on developing custom hardware technologies tailored specifically for the next wave of smart glasses. The objective is to embed more personalized intelligence into the devices while further optimizing power consumption and safeguarding sensitive user data.

Bobak Tavangar, CEO and co-founder of Brilliant Labs, expressed excitement about the partnership with Alif, emphasizing the potential to redefine personal computing through innovative silicon solutions. The co-development of silicon for the next-generation glasses is expected to deliver seamless, private, and responsive user experiences without compromising performance or battery life.

Alif Semiconductor views the collaboration as a strategic step towards enabling AI across edge devices powered by highly efficient processors. Reza Kazerounian, President and co-founder of Alif Semiconductor, highlighted the shared vision with Brilliant Labs in democratizing intelligence and empowering users through cutting-edge technology.

With the evolution of wearable computing gaining momentum, the partnership between Brilliant Labs and Alif Semiconductor underscores the increasing focus on privacy-centric AI architectures and specialized silicon tailored for lightweight, battery-powered devices. This collaboration is poised to drive innovation in low-power AI hardware, particularly for engineers working in embedded systems and edge AI, positioning smart glasses as a key platform for future advancements in wearable technology.
