The introduction of the motor controller board has significantly reduced the time to market for a wide range of advanced industrial and consumer products. These products include robots, multi-axis factory automation systems, garden equipment, and power tools. The STSPIN32G4 motor controller is equipped with an Arm® Cortex®-M4 microcontroller (MCU) that possesses the processing power to efficiently manage two motors simultaneously. This MCU is capable of executing complex algorithms like field-oriented control (FOC) in real-time. Moreover, the MCU peripherals provide support for sensored or sensorless FOC, as well as advanced position and torque-control algorithms.

The EVSPIN32G4-DUAL demonstration board is a remarkable innovation that harnesses the power of an advanced three-phase gate driver integrated in the STSPIN32G4. Additionally, it incorporates an extra STDRIVE101 gate driver to effectively control two three-phase inverters, delivering up to 10 A with a maximum supply voltage of 74 V. Both gate drivers come with their own bootstrap circuitry and a range of safety features, including drain-source voltage monitoring, cross-conduction prevention, thermal protection mechanisms, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO).

By leveraging the built-in power-management circuitry of the STSPIN32G4, the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL facilitates a compact design with a low Bill of Materials (BOM) that is easy to procure and enables rapid assembly in production. The power management features include a programmable buck converter for gate drivers VCC supply, a low-dropout linear regulator, and a special regulator with low quiescent current to supply the MCU during standby.

The STSPIN32G4 is seamlessly integrated into the STM32 ecosystem, which offers extensive support for application development. This support includes tools for project initiation, middleware packs, and software examples. The X-CUBE-MCSDK (motor control software development kit) provides firmware libraries for various algorithms, such as FOC, and the STM32 motor-control workbench. This user-friendly graphical tool allows users to easily select and configure the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL directly from a menu.
