On Wednesday, December 3, 2025 (9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. CET), Elektor Academy Pro will host a full-day online conference focused on the importance of post-quantum cryptography for embedded and (I)IoT systems. Leading cryptography and security experts will share insights on current trends, best practices, and innovative PQC implementations for these environments. The event is designed for embedded systems engineers, security and cryptography professionals, PQC strategists, and researchers interested in practical applications.
nWhy is Post-Quantum Cryptography so Important?
nIt remains uncertain when quantum computers will be able to break conventional cryptographic algorithms such as RSA (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman) or ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography). Whether this happens in 5, 10, 15 years or even later, organizations and their security teams must be ready for what is known as Q Day. This is especially critical for companies in the embedded and (I)IoT sectors, where components are often designed for long lifespans. The risk lies in attacks following the "harvest now, decrypt later" approach, where encrypted data is captured today and decrypted in the future using quantum capabilities.
nThe National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) initiated a call in 2017 to develop algorithms capable of resisting quantum computer attacks. In August 2024, the first three official NIST standards for post-quantum cryptography were released, marking the introduction of algorithms designed to withstand quantum threats. Additionally, an EU working group published a "coordinated roadmap for the transition to post-quantum cryptography" this summer, providing recommendations for member states to ensure a synchronized migration to PQC. Similar initiatives are also progressing in other regions.
nWhat to Expect from the Online Conference
nPost-quantum cryptography is therefore moving rapidly from theory into engineering reality. Embedded and (I)IoT systems need long-term protection, and quantum-resilient designs can no longer wait for "later". Many organizations are now asking: which PQC algorithms are feasible on real hardware, how should migration be planned, and how do we stay aligned with evolving EU standards?
nThe PQC conference delivers a compact yet comprehensive learning experience, combining six practical, 45-minute presentations with 15-minute Q&A opportunities.
nSpeakers of the conference are Nouri Alnahawi (TU Darmstadt), Detlev Houdeau (Infineon), Roland Marx (Swissbit), Klaus Schmeh (Eviden Digital Identity), Claude-Pascal Stöber-Schmidt (IAV), and Johann-Philipp Thiers (Swissbit).
nWhy Should You Register now?
nAfter each presentation, participants can join a live Q&A session with the speaker and connect with fellow engineers in moderated video breakout rooms. All talks will be recorded and available on demand, along with supplementary materials. A certificate of participation will also provided.
nThe regular ticket will be €289. Gold or Green members of Elektor, to which eeNews Europe belongs, will receive an additional discount so that they only have to pay €149 for a ticket.
