Switch Technologies has launched the world’s first vehicle to be powered by niobium-based fast charging battery cells.
The cells use a niobium material developed by Echion Technologies in the UK and are built by Li-Fun. Switch used the cells for a parallel-hybrid drive in a Toyota Land Cruiser 79 Series. This vehicle was used in a live track demonstration at the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct (AARP) in Perth, Australia on 3 December.
The cells developed by Li-Fun have a fast charge in less than ten minutes with high temperature operation and a lifetime of more than 10,000 cycles.
Echion and Switch are now beginning a comprehensive test and validation programme.
