Vox Power Announces Conduction-Cooled 300W DC-DC Converters for Rugged Environments
Vox Power, a leading power solutions provider, has recently unveiled a new line of conduction-cooled 300W dc-dc converters specifically designed for railway and other rugged environment applications.
The converters, measuring 188.6 x 116 x 25.4, offer a wide input range of 33.6 to 160V, making them suitable for various railway batteries such as 48V, 72V, 96V, and 110V. These converters are capable of withstanding dips to 28.8V for 100ms, complete drop-outs for 10ms, and 168V peaks for 1s. Additionally, the input under-voltage lock-out can be set between 30 and 100V, providing flexibility and customization options.
With four different models available, offering outputs of 12V, 24V, 36V, and 48V, the converters provide a wide range of options to meet different power requirements. All models feature a 90 to 125% adjustment range, ensuring precise power delivery.
Operating within a temperature range of -40 to +70°C, with short bursts up to +85°C, the converters are highly reliable even in extreme conditions. The peak efficiency of the converters is an impressive 93%, with the 12V version achieving 92% efficiency.
"The VCCR300 series delivers reliable power solutions for harsh and rugged environments," said David Carley, the business development director at Vox Power. "It is ideal for applications such as telecoms, roadside boxes, 5G, electrified moving equipment, and transportation devices."
For applications requiring higher power, up to three converters can be paralleled using the built-in droop current sharing and external sense resistors. This feature allows for increased power output without compromising performance or reliability.
The converters offer reinforced isolation of 5.4kV between input and output, as well as non-reinforced isolation of 3.4kV between input and chassis, and 2kV between output and chassis. These safety measures ensure protection against electrical hazards and enhance overall system safety.
With a maximum no-load consumption of 1.5W (1W typ), the converters are energy-efficient and help reduce power wastage. Furthermore, a shut-down control feature reduces power consumption to just 5mA (3.5mA typ) when the converters are not in use.
The VCCR300 series meets the EN50155 railway standard and MIL-STD-810G for shock and vibration. It is also approved to the IEC/UL62368-1 3rd edition industrial safety standard. The converters' EMC emissions and immunity exceed EN50121-3-2, EN55035, and EN55032 class B requirements, ensuring reliable and interference-free operation.
"Conformal coating safeguards against environmental factors and provides additional mechanical support," according to Vox Power. "With a calculated MTBF exceeding 2 million hours, the VCCR300 series offers long-term reliability in a ruggedized package."
