A new reference design by Vishay, available from DigiKey, introduces a unique solution for projects that require the use of semiconductor-based resettable fuses instead of mechanical relays and traditional non-resettable fuses. This design is particularly suitable for 48V e-mobility projects, such as battery management systems, EV testing, solar installations, as well as industrial and home automation, industrial and server computing, networking, telecom, and base station power supplies.

The EFUSE-48V100A reference design offers a safe and efficient way to connect and disconnect from 48V power sources, such as high-energy battery packs. It features a fast load disconnect time of under 2μs, a resettable fuse, and an adjustable current limit.

The eFuse is specifically designed to handle continuous currents of up to 100A, and it can operate continuously at maximum current with less than 14W of losses, without the need for active cooling. In addition to its over-current protection capabilities, it also includes a pre-charge function and continuous current monitoring. This ensures that the eFuse can quickly stop current flow in under 2μs, providing reliable protection for both the user and the connected hardware.

"The eFuse concept is an innovative trend that offers enhanced protection for high-power applications, benefiting both the user and the hardware. We are thrilled to partner with Vishay in launching this exciting new product," said Mike Slater, Vice President of Global Business Development at DigiKey.

With the EFUSE-48V100A reference design, Vishay and DigiKey are providing a reliable and efficient solution for projects that require the use of resettable fuses in high-power applications. This design not only ensures the safety of the user and the connected hardware but also offers the convenience of adjustable current limits and fast load disconnect times. Whether it's for e-mobility projects, industrial automation, or power supplies, this reference design is set to make a significant impact in various industries.
