LG is set to showcase a customisable cross-domain computer for automated driving and in-vehicle entertainment at CES. The technology is specifically aimed at vehicles that are expected to emerge in 2027.

The single electronic module, developed in collaboration with Magna, is designed to support multiple in-vehicle entertainment and information systems, as well as automated driving at various automotive safety integrity levels (ASILs).

"This scalable solution is ideal for the upcoming transition towards software-defined vehicles and the consolidation of electrical-electronic architecture," said LG. "The integration of functionalities into a single module enables the real-time sharing of data across domains."

The applications for this technology are expected to include handling displays, digital clusters, augmented reality head-up displays (AR-HUD), and visualization software.

"We are extremely pleased with the progress we have made on this mobility technology," said Eun Seok-hyun, President of LG's vehicle component division. "LG and Magna's joint efforts will help drive the industry forward, facilitating the adoption of technologies that enhance driving safety and the overall on-road experience."

The demonstrations of this technology at CES will be private and exclusively for major automakers, according to LG.

The collaboration between LG and Magna began last year. LG has already integrated a cockpit computing system into a single integrated circuit (IC) and has also developed the 'LG Magna e-Powertrain', which combines Magna's electric powertrain expertise with LG's power and motor components.
