Murata, a leading manufacturer of electronic components, has recently unveiled their latest innovation in the form of multi-amp miniature automotive SMD inductors. These new inductors boast an impressive improvement of over 30% compared to their predecessors.
Measuring just 2 x 1.6 x 1.2mm (0806 or 2016), these compact inductors come in two types. They have a wide temperature range of -40 to +115°C ambient, excluding self-heating, and can even withstand temperatures up to +155°C with self-heating. Additionally, they are capable of handling up to 40V.
The DFE2MCPH_JL series of inductors has been specifically designed for automotive powertrain and safety equipment. Murata claims that these inductors offer significant improvements over the previous DFE2MCAH_J0 series. For example, the 0.33µH part in the DFE2MCPH_JL series achieves a remarkable 38% reduction in dc resistance, along with a 31% increase in rated current for the same temperature rise. Furthermore, the rated current for a specified inductance drop is 64% higher.
These new inductors are expected to find applications in filtering and energy storage in power converters. Additionally, they may also be used in medical devices, particularly in GHTF classes A, B, and C, although certain limitations may apply.
Murata has plans to expand the range of values available for the DFE2MCPH_JL series, with future options ranging from 0.1 to 4.7µH. This will provide even more flexibility for engineers and designers in various industries.
