Erqos, a technology company based in Athens, Greece, has unveiled a new phone and cloud connected programmable logic controller (PLC) called EQSP32. This innovative device is backed by an AI-based semi-automatic control code generator, as well as a tool for creating matching phone apps. The EQSP32 is built around an ESP32S3 microcontroller with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, and it offers a range of digital and analogue inputs and outputs, as well as serial busses.
"EQSP32 allows electricians, automation engineers, and electronics enthusiasts to build solutions for a wide spectrum of industrial automation, home automation, remote monitoring, control, and instrumentation applications," stated the company.
Erqos refers to their programming approach as "no-code programming," and they offer an "EQ-AI generative AI programming assistant" that can transform a text-based description of required actions into code suitable for the controller. This code, which resembles Arduino code, can then be loaded into the EQSP32.
"Users simply need to describe their needs, and Erqos generates the code in seconds," the company claimed. "The EQ-AI assistant is equipped with comprehensive knowledge of the EQSP32's hardware circuits and software libraries. These libraries handle complex coding tasks specific to the hardware, such as configuring I/Os or establishing WiFi connections."
In addition to the PLC, Erqos has developed a design tool for creating matching phone apps. This tool simplifies the process by allowing users to drag and drop elements like buttons, sliders, and widgets. Users can customize these elements by resizing them, changing captions, and adjusting text styles and colors. Once the app is designed and functions as desired, it can be deployed to the iPhone App Store or Google Play with just a click.
When the app is in use, it is continuously updated with the current status of the EQSP32's inputs and outputs through a cloud-based real-time database. The control functions are performed locally inside the module, independent of the network connection. Internet access is only required for monitoring or controlling the EQSP32 via a smartphone.
Erqos utilizes Google's Firebase real-time database for the cloud-based functionality of their solution. Users who create systems for themselves or a small number of customers typically have data traffic below the threshold where they need to pay anything. However, if the data traffic exceeds that threshold, users will need to pay Google for the service. Erqos, on the other hand, generates revenue by selling the modules and offering design solutions for users who lack the necessary resources, knowledge, or time.
The EQSP32 PLC features RS232/485 ports, making it compatible with DMX systems. It also has an optional CANbus and 16 configurable I/O terminals that can be used as a 12-bit analog input, a digital input, a digital output, or a 24V 1A PWM digital output. The module includes an expansion port for connecting additional modules, and rail-mounted expansion modules are planned for future release.
Erqos has already announced an expansion module with a pH meter and dual stepper motor drivers for water treatment applications. They are also developing another expansion module with additional digital and analogue IO capabilities. The EQSP32 requires power at 10 to 28Vdc and provides a 5V 1A output for sensors and other loads. Its dimensions are 71 x 90 x 57.
Erqos, founded in 2022, is dedicated to providing innovative solutions in the field of automation and control. For more information about the EQSP32 and its capabilities, visit the product page on Erqos' website, which includes links to informative videos.
