Space South Central Secures Cosmic Capital Funding Portal

Space South Central serves as the gateway to Cosmic Capital, providing a platform for space-related small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to attract financial support. The regional space organization, encompassing Surrey and Hampshire, along with the SETsquared Partnership, has secured funding from the UK Space Agency to launch the Cosmic Capital initiative.

The primary objective of Cosmic Capital is to assist "high-potential space and space-related SMEs in attracting investment." Applications for this program are currently open, with an anticipated selection of 20 to 25 companies. Once chosen, these companies will gain access to a 12-month investment-readiness training program conducted by SETsquared Surrey, along with pitching opportunities.

Participants in the Cosmic Capital initiative will benefit from a range of resources, including specialized masterclasses tailored to the space industry. Topics covered will include sessions on Raising Angel Finance, Funding Strategy, and the development of a short- to medium-term investment strategy. Additionally, one-on-one sessions will be provided to help companies prepare their investment deck effectively.

Moreover, the program will offer opportunities for pitch preparation and practice, both individually and in small groups, guided by investor mentors with prior experience in space investments. Networking events, workshops, and seminars focusing on investor preferences in pitches and investment deals will also be part of the initiative.

This regional space partnership was unveiled at the Farnborough International Air Show in 2022, uniting Surrey and Hampshire and involving three prominent universities.

These universities include the University of Portsmouth's Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, the University of Southampton's Space at Southampton, and the Surrey Space Centre at the University of Surrey. With over 5,500 individuals employed in the space sector across the two counties, notable companies such as Airbus, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, and others are part of the thriving space industry in the region.
