Mouser Partners with Edge Impulse to Boost Edge Intelligence

Mouser showcased one of the key themes at Embedded World 2024, focusing on intelligence at the edge. The company revealed its partnership with Edge Impulse, a leading software framework provider for embedded machine learning (ML) applications.

Explaining the significance of implementing machine learning at the edge of the network, Mouser's Mark Patrick emphasized the need to make quick decisions at the network edge. Edge Impulse's products are tailored to empower engineers in building and deploying ML applications with ease and speed. Patrick highlighted that the tools are hardware-agnostic, supporting a wide range of target platforms available from Mouser, such as Nordic Semiconductor's RF52, Bluetooth Low Energy, and boards from Thingy, Silicon Labs, and Raspberry Pi.

Patrick further emphasized the advantages of developing solutions with a small footprint, minimal memory requirements, and high performance for edge training. This approach enables faster, simpler, and more efficient development processes for engineers.

Mouser customers now have convenient online access to the Edge Impulse software platform through relevant product microsites. This accessibility allows users to explore how ML can enhance their designs. Additionally, Edge Impulse users can easily access compatible hardware, including microcontrollers and development kits, directly from Mouser.

The potential applications of edge AI span across various industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, consumer products, and the emerging field of agri-AI. In agriculture, edge AI is utilized for pest identification and is envisioned for use in robotic fruit pickers to identify ripe fruit for harvesting.

The global collaboration between Mouser and Edge Impulse aims to eliminate barriers hindering edge AI and ML development. By simplifying access to hardware products and streamlining development processes, the partnership seeks to drive innovation in the field. Building on past successful collaborations, the companies introduced BrickML, a standalone tool developed by Edge Impulse and manufactured by Reloc. This system-on-module (SoM) enables engineers to create and deploy ML solutions at the edge and is exclusively distributed through Mouser.
