Radxa and Mediatek Collaborate on AI Single Board Computer

Radxa, a leading technology company, has recently unveiled its latest innovation in the form of a single board computer (SBC) powered by the MediaTek Genio 1200 AI processing unit (APU). The NIO 12L SBC is designed to offer high-performance computing capabilities in a compact and energy-efficient package.

The NIO 12L SBC is equipped with the Ubunto Linux operating system from Canonical, running on the powerful combination of four ARM Cortex A78 and four A55 cores within the Genio 1200 chip. Additionally, the 6nm chip features an ARM Mali-G57 MC5 GPU and a dual-core custom APU developed by MediaTek, enabling seamless integration of various AI-driven tasks.

One of the key highlights of the APU is its support for INT8, INT16, and precision-focused FP16 data, making it ideal for applications requiring deep learning (DL), Neural Network (NN) acceleration, and Computer Vision (CV). This native support for AI-driven tasks allows for real-time embedded processing, opening up a wide range of possibilities for developers and enthusiasts alike.

Collaborating with Canonical, Radxa has ensured that the NIO 12L comes pre-installed with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Currently, the NIO 12L is undergoing the rigorous Ubuntu Certification process, which involves over 500 hardware tests focused on OS compatibility. Once the certification is complete, the NIO 12L will be listed on Canonical's certified hardware list, further validating its compatibility and performance with Ubuntu-based systems.

Radxa has ambitious plans to make the NIO 12L available to a global audience through its network of distributors and online retail channels, including RS-subsidiary Okdo.
