The latest innovation from Renesas, the FemtoClock™ 3 family, is set to revolutionize clock tree designs for high-speed interconnect systems. This new family of ultra-low jitter clock generators and jitter attenuators offers 8 and 12 outputs, providing a solution that is both high-performance and cost-effective. Targeted applications for these devices range from telecom switches and routers to top-of-rack data center switches, medical imaging, broadcast audio, and video.

The FemtoClock 3 devices boast industry-leading phase noise and jitter characteristics, meeting the demanding requirements of 112 Gbps SerDes rates and even future 224 Gbps SerDes designs. What sets these devices apart is their ability to operate using commonly available 48 MHz to 73 MHz crystals, making them versatile and accessible. With the capability to generate up to four frequency domains and integrated LDOs with superior PSRR, these devices simplify board design and reduce overall costs.

According to Zaher Baidas, Vice President of the Timing Division for Renesas, "Renesas leads the industry with best-in-class timing built from decades of experience and patented technology." The FemtoClock 3 devices further solidify this leadership position by offering multiple clock and synchronization functions in a single device with ultra-low jitter. This simplifies PCB design, reduces solution area, and ultimately lowers costs for manufacturers.

Key features of the FemtoClock 3 family include support for multiple operating modes such as synchronization, jitter attenuation, and clock generation. Customers can seamlessly integrate these new devices with Renesas' ClockMatrix™, VersaClock, buffer, and oscillator portfolio to address complex timing requirements in wireline infrastructure and data center designs.

Moreover, the FemtoClock 3 devices work harmoniously with Renesas' IC Toolbox (RICBox) application, allowing users to configure and program devices on the evaluation board with ease. The RICBox also interfaces with the Renesas Lab on the Cloud platform, enabling users to virtually connect to a real laboratory setting for enhanced testing and development capabilities.

Renesas has gone a step further by combining the FemtoClock 3 devices with other compatible products from its portfolio to create Winning Combinations, such as the 1600G Fixed Form Factor Switch. These Winning Combinations offer pre-validated system architectures that leverage mutually compatible devices to deliver optimized designs with reduced risk, accelerating time to market for manufacturers.
