The imaging industry is abuzz with excitement as OMNIVISION unveils its latest breakthrough in sensor technology. The high-resolution, small-format GS sensors are setting a new standard for shutter efficiency, enabling the capture of high-speed moving objects with unparalleled clarity and accuracy at high frame rates. Not only do these sensors boast high sensitivity and low noise, but they also feature enhanced NIR quantum efficiency (QE) for exceptional low-light performance.
Compared to their predecessors, the 2.5µm frontside-illuminated (FSI) GS sensors, the new 2.2µm BSI GS sensors offer a significant boost in sensitivity. With an F2.0 lens, they can achieve 1.08x sensitivity, while with an F1.4 lens, the sensitivity jumps to an impressive 2.16x. Among the new releases is the OG05B1B, a 5-megapixel (MP) resolution CMOS monochrome GS sensor in a 1/2.53-inch optical format (OF), and the OG01H1B, a 1.5MP resolution CMOS monochrome GS sensor in a 1/4.51-inch OF.
In response to the growing demand for advanced imaging solutions, OMNIVISION has established a dedicated Machine Vision Unit. This unit will focus on developing innovative products tailored for industrial automation, robotics, logistics barcode scanners, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Michael Wu, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at OMNIVISION, expressed confidence in the company's ability to drive innovation in the machine vision market.
Wu stated, “We see a huge demand in the machine vision market for 3D cameras and CMOS image sensors. With our strong technological foundation in Nyxel®, BSI, and GS technology, we are well-equipped to deliver groundbreaking solutions to the industry. Our new Machine Vision Unit is committed to understanding our customers' requirements and providing them with cutting-edge vision solutions.” Both the OG05B1B and OG01H1B sensors incorporate OMNIVISION's Nyxel® near-infrared (NIR) technology, which enhances QE up to 700-1050nm, allowing for brighter image capture from greater distances.
The GS sensors also feature PureCel®Plus-S stacked-die architecture for superior image sensor performance and CSP™ package technology for compact dimensions. Key features of the OG05B1B GS sensor include [insert key features], while the OG01H1B sensor offers [insert key features]. These innovative sensors are currently available for sampling and are expected to enter mass production this quarter, marking a significant milestone in imaging technology advancement.
