Wind River has announced a strategic collaboration with Elektrobit to develop key software for self-driving software-defined vehicles. This partnership will leverage the strengths of both companies, with Wind River's VxWorks serving as the real-time operating system alongside Elektrobit's EB corbos AdaptiveCore software and EB corbos Studio tools.

Elektrobit, a subsidiary of Continental, recently received functional safety approval for its Linux software and has also developed an Autosar Adaptive Platform-based software framework for autonomous driving domain controllers. By combining the Autosar Adaptive Platform with the ISO 26262 ASIL-D certified VxWorks operating environment, the collaboration aims to provide a comprehensive pre-integrated foundation for enhancing automotive safety levels for ADAS Electronic Control Units (ECUs).

Woody Zou, General Manager, China at Wind River, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, "We are delighted to further grow our continued efforts with Elektrobit to advance autonomous driving technologies. Elektrobit’s proven software solutions, combined with the industry-leading VxWorks, can help drive innovation in the automotive market while delivering on functional safety, security, and reliability."

Demetrio Aiello, Head of Product Engineering at Elektrobit, also shared his optimism about the collaboration, saying, "The combination of Elektrobit's Autosar Adaptive Platform and the trusted VxWorks real-time operating system helps create safe, secure, flexible, and high-performance ECUs to support automakers accelerate the development of their autonomous domain controllers and promote the mass production of new electric vehicles."

VxWorks stands out as the only RTOS that supports Open Container Initiative (OCI) compliant containers, simplifying software deployment and management while reducing development and operating costs. This capability further enhances the value proposition of the collaboration between Wind River and Elektrobit in driving innovation and efficiency in the automotive industry.
