IQM Quantum Computers (IQM) based in Finland has unveiled plans to construct an industrial production unit dedicated to quantum computers and chips in France. This significant development was announced during the Choose France summit, an annual event aimed at showcasing France's global appeal and attracting foreign investments, particularly in the realm of quantum technology.
The initial phase of this ambitious project will involve setting up fabrication processes in a pilot line at CEA-Leti in Grenoble. IQM already operates a commercial fab in Espoo, Finland, specializing in the construction of quantum processors. Dr. Jan Goetz, Co-CEO and Co-founder at IQM Quantum Computers, emphasized the company's commitment to establishing a cutting-edge fabrication facility in France, which will complement their existing R&D efforts in Finland synergistically.
Julie Galland, Director of technological research at CEA, expressed full support for IQM's initiative, highlighting the organization's dedication to France's national strategy for quantum sovereignty. The collaboration with IQM underscores the region's excellence and attractiveness, expanding ambitions on a broader European scale. Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire lauded IQM's decision to select France as the site for its superconducting quantum processor fabrication facility, recognizing it as a testament to French expertise in the field and a crucial step towards fostering European quantum champions.
Laurent Saint-Martin, General Manager of Business France, commended IQM's choice to establish a production unit for quantum technologies in France, underscoring the country's appeal for foreign investments in the quantum computing sector. This move reflects France's commitment to supporting groundbreaking innovation, with Business France pledging continued collaboration with companies to promote French excellence globally.
Dr. Neil Abroug, Head of the French National Quantum Strategy at SGPI, emphasized the significance of IQM's investment for the French quantum initiative. He stressed the importance of advanced fabrication facilities for European superconducting quantum startups to compete effectively with their American counterparts. The partnership between IQM and its French industrial and academic collaborators is poised to benefit not only IQM but also the broader French and European quantum ecosystem.
