Siemens and Sony Corporation have joined forces to unveil an innovative solution that merges Siemens Xcelerator industry software with Sony's cutting-edge XR head-mounted display (HMD), SRH-S1. This groundbreaking device was crafted using Siemens' NX software, a core tool utilized by Sony in the design of its top-tier products.
During the Realize LIVE event in Las Vegas, Seiya Amatatsu, the Head of Sony's XR Technology Development Division, shared insights into how his team leveraged Siemens' NX™ software from the Xcelerator portfolio to create the new HMD. The SRH-S1 boasts an XR head-mounted display featuring high-quality 4K OLED Microdisplays and controllers that facilitate intuitive interaction with 3D objects. Sony has embraced the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio as its primary product engineering software since 2015, accelerating its design processes.
"Sony achieved the fastest implementation of NX globally, enhancing our design process productivity by 25%. Despite the strides made with NX, I aspired to push boundaries further by introducing a product that enables direct editing in an immersive setting. I believed this vision could be realized through collaboration with Siemens, leading to the development of the XR head-mounted display, which promises to expedite the launch of innovative products," remarked Sony's Amatatsu.
The XR head-mounted display from Sony plays a pivotal role in the upcoming NX Immersive Designer, an integrated solution that marries Siemens' premier product engineering software, NX, exclusively with Sony's revolutionary XR technology. This fusion aims to deliver immersive design experiences and foster collaborative product engineering capabilities.
"At Sony, our dedication lies with empowering creators. Across all our endeavors, we strive to equip creators with the tools they need, and the SRH-S1 epitomizes this commitment. Our head-mounted display and specialized controllers enable users to create in a more intuitive manner within a fully immersive environment, seamlessly transitioning between virtual and physical realms. This facilitates real-time collaboration and creation with peers worldwide, fostering a culture of innovation," elucidated Hirohito Kondo, Deputy General Manager of Sony's XR Business Development Division.
