Rutronik System Solutions has introduced a cutting-edge board designed for low power 60GHz radar-based distance measurements and people detection. The Rutronik RAB3 adapter board serves as a valuable tool for testing the functionality of a fully integrated module and exploring the potential of discrete development. By streamlining the pre-development phase and minimizing costs, the RAB3 significantly expedites the process of bringing radar-based applications to market.

The board leverages the innovative Nisshinbo Smart Sensor Micro-Module, enabling precise non-contact distance measurements and accurate people counting through the utilization of a 60GHz band millimeter wave sensor. In addition, the Infineon XENSIV 60GHz discrete radar sensor enhances the board's capabilities by offering advanced radar technology. Equipped with one transmitting and three receiving antennas, the radar sensor features an L-shaped antenna suitable for array, horizontal, and vertical angular measurements.

The emergence of IoT control applications has fueled the demand for sensing devices that can effectively gather information. Radar sensing has emerged as a robust and stable solution, capable of withstanding external factors like temperature fluctuations and ambient light variations. Stephan Menze, Head of Global Innovation Management at Rutronik, highlights the privacy advantages of radar technology, emphasizing that radar-based motion detection does not rely on actual images.

With the RAB3, developers gain access to a versatile development environment for testing compact and energy-efficient radar applications. The board's compatibility with the Arduino interface facilitates seamless integration with other Base Boards and Adapter Boards offered by Rutronik System Solutions. When paired with the RDK3 Base Board, the RAB3 enables privacy-conscious detection in poorly lit environments, leveraging Bluetooth Low Energy for localized operations.

Furthermore, the RAB3 can be connected to the Text To Speech Adapter Board, which is powered by Epson core hardware and software. This integration enables voice output capabilities, allowing for communication regarding the occupancy status of a room or hall in up to twelve languages. The Adapter Board RAB3, along with a practical application example from Rutronik System Solutions, is now accessible at www.rutronik.com.
