Macronix has recently joined forces with Renesas to create a cutting-edge smart lock by combining Macronix's ArmorFlash secure NOR flash memory with the Renesas RA8M1 ARM Cortex-M85 microcontrollers (MCUs). This collaboration aims to enhance data security and operational reliability in IoT devices.

The Macronix ArmorFlash is equipped with secure ID, authentication, and encryption features, which perfectly complement the embedded security capabilities of the Renesas RA8M1. The RA8M1 includes the RSIP-E51A integrated security engine targeting PSA Certified Level 3 RoT Component certification. Macronix has also developed a specialized ArmorFlash driver that works seamlessly with the Renesas Flexible Software Package (FSP) to further improve operational reliability.

The ArmorFlash devices utilize standard SPI, QSPI, or OctaBus interfaces, making it easier for designers to integrate them into their projects. Macronix has already created a smart lock prototype to showcase the seamless integration of the Renesas RA8M1 MCU, ArmorFlash memory, FSP framework, and External Trusted Secure Storage Partition of Arm TF-M. This integration allows IoT developers to bolster data security, ensure reliable operations, and streamline the development process.

Renesas has begun shipping its ARM Cortex-M85 microcontrollers, positioning them as a significant advancement over the M7 series. F.L. Ni, vice president of marketing at Macronix, emphasized the compatibility between ArmorFlash and the RA8M1, stating, “ArmorFlash is an ideal flash memory for securing data in applications, which aligns with Renesas RA8M1.” The combination of the RA8M1 and ArmorFlash's security features opens up a wide array of data-security solutions, particularly in security-sensitive IoT and industrial segments.

ArmorFlash, Macronix's family of highly secure NOR Flash devices, offers configurable options for code and data storage. These memory solutions cater to a variety of applications, including IoT, automotive, computing, industrial, healthcare systems, wearables, and smart homes and cities, providing robust security features for identification, authentication, and encryption requirements.
