New Cosel SiC 3.5kW AC-DC Converter: Reduced Height for 1U Designs

Cosel, a leading power supply manufacturer, has recently announced a significant reduction in the height of its HFA3500TF 3-phase, 3-wire 3500W AC-DC converter. The company has managed to cut the height by 30%, making it now only 41mm high to fit into a 1U rack. This development is aimed at meeting the space constraints of industrial equipment such as semiconductor manufacturing, laser processing machines, and robotics.

The HFA3500TF AC-DC converter is specifically designed for 3-Phase Delta or 3-Phase Star networks, offering a wide operating input range of 180VAC to 528VAC. Previously, the converter was 65mm high, but the new compact design allows for easier integration into various industrial applications. The use of a digitally controlled switching topology and Wide Band Gap (WBG) silicon carbide semiconductor devices has significantly improved the efficiency of the converter to 94% at 400VAC input and 65VDC output.

One of the key features of the HFA3500TF is its flexibility in output voltages, with options for 48VDC and 65VDC. These output voltages are adjustable within a range of +15% to -50% using the trim function. Additionally, the converter can be connected in parallel with up to ten units, enabling a total power delivery of up to 31.5kW.

For applications that require fan-cooling, the HFA3500TF is a suitable choice. However, in environments where ventilation is limited, such as welding robots and tooling machines, the HCA3500TF variant has been developed for baseplate conduction cooling. This ensures reliable operation even in harsh conditions without the need for additional ventilation.

In terms of safety and compliance, the HFA3500TF is equipped with various protection features including inrush current limiting circuitry, overcurrent and overvoltage protection, and thermal protection. The power supply can operate within a temperature range of -10 to +70°C and includes two cooling fans with automatic speed control to ensure proper ventilation.
