NTN Successfully Verifies NB-IoT Test Cases for RF and RRM

At a recent meeting, the TS-RRM and TS8980 test platforms received approval for conducting all types of NTN NB-IoT tests, including RF, Demod, and RRM. This milestone solidifies Rohde & Schwarz's position as the only company to have activated both NTN NB-IoT RF and radio resource management (RRM) work items in the Global Certification Forum (GCF).

This significant achievement led to the activation of WI 336 in the GCF's device certification program. It signifies that Rohde & Schwarz now offers comprehensive support for the certification of Release 17 NB-IoT user equipment (UE) for NTNs or non-terrestrial networks.

Non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) operating above the Earth's surface play a crucial role in enabling ubiquitous wireless connectivity. These networks extend coverage to remote areas that lack access to traditional terrestrial networks, bridging the digital divide.

The TS-RRM and TS8980 test systems are specifically designed to streamline NB-IoT certification across LTE and various radio access technologies (RAT). The TS-RRM serves as a fully automated conformance test system for executing RRM conformance test cases, including 5G NR and LTE inter-RAT RRM test cases for certifying wireless devices. It supports 3GPP frequency bands of FR1 (sub-6GHz) and FR2 (mmWave), catering to both NSA and SA modes. In terms of RRM testing, the system can be customized to run validated FR2 (mmWave) test cases for single and multiple angles of arrival (AoA).

On the other hand, the TS8980 stands out as the most compact full-range conformance testing system available. This system automates the mobile device certification process by conducting RF transmitter, receiver, and performance measurements seamlessly without requiring user intervention. Its scalable hardware and software enable cost-effective testing and can be tailored for design verification, precompliance, or final type approval testing, covering the entire device certification process for RF and RRM.
