congatec, a leading technology company based in Germany, has recently unveiled its latest computer-on-modules (COMs) featuring the powerful i.MX 95 processors from NXP Semiconductors. The conga-SMX95 SMARC modules represent a significant leap in performance compared to the previous i.MX8 M Plus modules, offering three times the processing power. Additionally, these new modules come equipped with the eIQ Neutron neural processing unit, which effectively doubles the inference performance for AI accelerated machine vision applications. One of the standout features of the conga-SMX95 modules is the hardware-integrated EdgeLock secure enclave, which greatly simplifies the implementation of robust in-house cybersecurity measures.

The i.MX95 SMARC 2.1 modules are specifically designed to operate within an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making them ideal for demanding environments where reliability is paramount. These modules are not only rugged in mechanical terms but also optimized for cost- and energy-efficient applications, ensuring that they can meet the needs of a wide range of industries and use cases.

One of the most exciting developments enabled by the integration of the high-performance eIQ Neutron NPU is the ability to execute AI accelerated workloads at the local device level. This opens up a world of possibilities for applications such as industrial production, machine vision, visual inspection, rugged HMIs, 3D printers, robotics controllers, medical imaging, and more. The conga-SMX95 modules are also well-suited for use in passenger seat back entertainment systems, fleet management solutions, and various applications in transportation, construction, and farming.

Featuring four or six ARM Cortex-A55 cores and ARM's Mali 3D graphics unit, the conga-SMX95 modules deliver exceptional GPU performance, making them ideal for graphics-intensive applications. In addition, these modules are equipped with an image signal processor (ISP) for hardware-accelerated image processing, further enhancing their capabilities in visual computing tasks.

Moreover, the conga-SMX95 modules offer a real-time domain for real-time controllers, two Gbit Ethernet interfaces with TSN for synchronized network data transmission, LPDDR5 memory with inline ECC for enhanced data security, and multiple display connectivity options including DisplayPort and LVDS. With 2x MIPI-CSI interfaces for direct camera connectivity, these modules provide a comprehensive solution for a wide range of embedded computing applications.

congatec's collaboration with TI has resulted in a robust hardware and software ecosystem that complements the conga-SMX95 modules. This ecosystem includes evaluation- and production-ready application carrier boards, custom cooling solutions, comprehensive documentation, training resources, and signal integrity measurements to support developers in their application development efforts.
