R&D teams at automotive supplier Webasto have embarked on a groundbreaking collaboration with Monolith AI software to enhance the efficiency of battery module and pack testing for electric vehicles. By integrating Monolith AI tools into their development and production processes, Webasto aims to streamline operations, free up engineering time, and elevate the quality of EV battery packs.

Webasto, known for producing over 500 battery system prototypes annually, generates vast amounts of raw test data from thousands of tests. However, this data is not initially conducive for training AI models. To address this challenge, Monolith engineers provide crucial support in collating and preparing the data for AI training, enabling Webasto's R&D teams to leverage advanced AI capabilities. The next phase involves integrating automated data cleaning and real-time processing into their workflows.

One of the key breakthroughs resulting from this partnership is the implementation of an AI recommendation engine that significantly reduces battery test requirements. For instance, the focus is currently on optimizing battery pack screw tightening processes, which involve monitoring hundreds of screws for torque. By harnessing AI for this task, Webasto can efficiently manage vast amounts of data, thereby freeing up valuable resources and accelerating the testing process.

Dr. Richard Ahlfeld, CEO and Founder of Monolith, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "The work we're doing with Webasto sets a new benchmark for leveraging AI to enhance processes and products. By identifying key use cases, preparing data, and training experts, we have accelerated battery validation and improved overall quality and performance."

Markus Meiler, VP of Research & Development at Webasto, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the transformative impact of Monolith's platform on their operations. Meiler highlighted the platform's ability to reduce physical testing time and simulations, enabling more efficient product development. Through this partnership, Webasto aims to leverage AI across their R&D initiatives, paving the way for enhanced innovation and optimization in the electric vehicle sector.
