Keysight Technologies has recently introduced a groundbreaking custom ASIC for its 14-bit analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) oscilloscope, setting a new standard in signal resolution and noise reduction compared to other general-purpose oscilloscopes.

The Keysight InfiniiVision HD3 Series oscilloscope is the result of meticulous design, incorporating the custom ASIC and a deep memory architecture tailored for a wide range of applications requiring 14-bit resolution, leveraging hardware elements from the UXR series.

This innovative approach has led to the achievement of a remarkable 50 µVRMS low noise floor, enabling the detection of even the most subtle signal anomalies across bandwidths ranging from 200 MHz to 1 GHz, coupled with an impressive 1.3 M waveforms per second update rate for all measurements.

Looking ahead to 2024, Keysight is at the forefront of AI trends, with a focus on enhancing user experience through a new interface that ensures full ADC and vertical resolution on every channel, multiple bandwidth limiting options, support for HD mode, and customizable measurement thresholds.

Moreover, the introduction of automatic fault hunter software streamlines general debugging processes by analyzing glitches and slow edges, allowing engineers to multitask efficiently. Additionally, engineers can automate measurements using a diverse array of serial bus protocols and application software.

One of the key advantages of the InfiniiVision HD3 Series oscilloscope is its flexibility in terms of upgrades. Through software licensing, users can instantly access bandwidth, memory, and feature enhancements, enabling them to acquire necessary options upfront and scale up as their design requirements evolve, all without the need to send the instrument back to the factory.

Robert Saponas, Vice President and General Manager of Keysight Digital Photonics Centre of Excellence, emphasized the significance of the new oscilloscope, stating, “Recognizing engineers' demand for swift and accurate measurements across various applications, we developed the InfiniiVision HD3 to deliver exceptional precision for general use. With a custom ASIC, 14-bit ADC, and significantly reduced noise floor, the HD3 Series empowers engineers to pinpoint even the smallest and rarest signal irregularities during design debugging, ultimately expediting time to market."
