Partnership Accelerates Time to Market for Matter-Certified IoT Devices

Silicon Labs has joined forces with Kudelski IoT, a division of the Kudelski Group, in a strategic partnership aimed at expediting the time to market for Matter-certified IoT devices. This collaboration is set to revolutionize the IoT industry by integrating Kudelski IoT's Matter Device Attestation Certificates (DAC) into Silicon Labs' Custom Part Manufacturing Service (CPMS).

By incorporating Kudelski IoT's DAC into CPMS, device manufacturers can now establish Zero Trust security measures from the very beginning of the production process, ensuring end-to-end security for IoT devices. This innovative approach not only saves valuable time but also reduces costs associated with security implementation.

The Zero Trust philosophy, characterized by the principle of "never trust, always verify," aligns perfectly with the core principles of Matter, an IP-based connectivity protocol designed to unify IoT devices. Matter mandates the use of unique device authentication certificates based on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to enhance security significantly.

While the adoption of PKI brings robust security benefits to IoT devices, it also introduces complexities for manufacturers, particularly in securely obtaining and transferring certificates from Certificate Authorities to production facilities. The collaboration between Silicon Labs and Kudelski IoT addresses these challenges by offering a streamlined process for injecting Matter DACs during production.

Rohit Ravichandran, product manager for security and services at Silicon Labs, emphasized the simplicity and security of the new approach, stating, "The Matter volume production doesn't have to be a complex hurdle. Our secure provisioning service, in conjunction with Kudelski IoT's expertise in PKI services, empowers manufacturers to prioritize innovation without compromising on security."

Chrystophe Clément, principal architect at Kudelski IoT, highlighted the benefits of the integrated CPMS and DAC injection service, stating, "Kudelski IoT's Matter Product Attestation Certificate Service simplifies the onboarding process, enabling seamless integration into the Matter ecosystem.
