Imagination Technologies has introduced the DXTP GPU IP, designed to enhance battery life while accelerating graphics and compute workloads on smartphones and other power-constrained devices. This new GPU IP boasts a range of micro-architectural improvements, resulting in up to 20% improved power efficiency (FPS/W) on popular graphics workloads compared to its DXT counterpart.

According to Peter Richardson, Partner & VP at Counterpoint Research, the global smartphone market is witnessing a resurgence driven by advanced AI features like personal agents and enhanced photography. The success of this AI-driven revolution depends on maintaining high standards such as smooth interfaces, sleek designs, and long-lasting battery life. Consumers are increasingly drawn to premium devices that seamlessly integrate advanced AI capabilities without compromising essential smartphone qualities.

The DXTP GPU IP offers impressive specifications, including up to 64 GPixel/s, 2 TFLOPS FP32, and 8 TOPS INT8 in an ultra-parallel compute engine running at 1GHz. It comes in two off-the-shelf configurations and has already been licensed for use in mobile and automotive applications. In addition to performance and efficiency enhancements, DXTP is highly flexible, featuring secure GPU multitasking and the ability to run graphics and compute operations simultaneously with minimal overhead.

Zelos, a tech company, is incorporating Imagination's advanced and power-efficient compute technology into their upcoming chip. Cheng Chen, Technical Director at Zelos, praises Imagination's GPUs for combining ultra-parallel processing performance with a highly programmable architecture, making them ideal for accelerating AI models. Imagination offers a well-established software ecosystem, along with an award-winning SDK and tools to support developers in optimizing their applications for Imagination-based hardware.

Imagination's DXTP GPU IP is a testament to the company's engineering prowess, with numerous small improvements culminating in significant gains. James Chapman, Chief Product Officer at Imagination, highlights the performance and efficiency enhancements within DXTP that will enable future smartphones to run gaming and AI applications with even lower power consumption. DXTP represents the culmination of Imagination's D-Series GPU family, which includes the high-performance IMG DXD for the desktop market and the innovative IMG DXS for the safety-critical automotive sector.
