Emerson streamlines embedded software test for HIL

Emerson has introduced a cutting-edge software test suite called NI LabVIEW+ Suite for HIL, tailored to meet the increasing demands of engineers involved in developing and testing embedded software. Specifically designed for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) applications, this suite integrates test, validation, and data analysis tools into a cohesive platform, aiming to streamline workflows and expedite time-to-market processes.

The software suite equips engineers with essential resources to replicate intricate conditions that would otherwise pose challenges. By adopting an open, software-defined, intelligent testing approach, the suite utilizes modular hardware to swiftly adapt to new obstacles. It promotes the reuse of modular components and operates on the NI Switch Load and Signal Conditioning hardware to detect edge cases across testing systems. Engineers can effortlessly upgrade their systems to accommodate emerging technologies and tailor software models to meet evolving requirements.

With the shift of functionality from electromechanical systems to embedded software by product designers, there is a growing necessity for thorough testing through continuous integration. The HIL strategy not only saves significant time and resources but also enhances product reliability in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics.

To enhance workflows and safeguard designs against the increasing complexity of next-generation products, the software suite incorporates essential development tools like NI VeriStand, NI LabVIEW, NI LabVIEW Real-Time, and NI LabVIEW FPGA, all of which were available in previous packages. Additionally, it introduces two new software products with advanced native integration capabilities: NI TestStand, which streamlines the automation of complex test systems to meet the rising demand for efficient and scalable testing, and NI DIAdem, which enables sophisticated post-process data review and analysis, empowering engineers to make prompt informed decisions.

Rudy Sengupta, the vice president and general manager of test and analytics software at Emerson’s test and measurement business, emphasized the significance of this suite, stating, “This suite offers the most comprehensive software stack available on the market for HIL engineers. By utilizing the NI LabVIEW+ Suite for HIL, users can expand test coverage, reduce development time, and cut costs – all while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to future testing needs."
