DigiKey, STMicroelectronics, and Ultra Librarian have joined forces to enhance the eDesignSuite integration within ST’s browser-based design environment. The goal is to streamline the process from initial simulation work to bill-of-materials export and component purchasing. This collaboration aims to reduce the need for engineers to switch between different tools by providing a seamless flow from design and simulation to BOM refinement, schematic export, and purchasing.

Benefits of the eDesignSuite Integration

The expanded integration between ST’s online design tools, Ultra Librarian’s component-library infrastructure, and DigiKey’s fulfilment platform offers engineers a comprehensive solution for power-management design, signal-conditioning work, and NFC/RFID development. The web-based environment also supports electrical and thermal simulation, providing a holistic approach to the design process.

ST’s browser-based design environment already covers various design domains, but this new collaboration enhances the connection to procurement and CAD output. Engineers can now make real-time BOM refinements, visualize the impact of parameter changes, export schematics and BOMs to popular CAD platforms like OrCAD, Altium, and Eagle, and seamlessly order the required components through DigiKey.

Significance of the eDesignSuite Integration

This integration addresses a common challenge in electronics design where simulation data, library data, CAD files, and purchasing data are often stored in separate silos. By bringing these steps closer together, the collaboration aims to reduce administrative hurdles and streamline the design-to-production process. It empowers engineers to make informed decisions and accelerate the transition from concept to tangible hardware.

DigiKey emphasizes the speed at which engineers can move from idea to orderable hardware, while ST positions the integration as an extension of eDesignSuite to encompass the entire design-to-purchase workflow. Ultra Librarian plays a crucial role in providing verified symbols, footprints, and models to ensure seamless export into downstream CAD flows without the need for manual clean-up.

While ST claims to be the first integrated-circuit vendor to achieve this level of connectivity with DigiKey’s purchasing systems, the true value lies in how efficiently engineers can navigate between simulation, BOM editing, and CAD export in their daily workflows. This initiative aligns with ST’s broader strategy of strengthening its design ecosystem, as demonstrated by the recent establishment of a power design and industrialization center in Pisa. The enhanced environment is currently accessible through ST’s online tools, with DigiKey promoting it as part of a larger effort to integrate design activities more closely with sourcing and fulfillment processes.
