SK Signet has unveiled a new high-power DC charging platform tailored for operators seeking increased output within a smaller installation area. The South Korean company has integrated power electronics and dispenser hardware into a single unit, with initial production currently underway in the US.

The 400kW EV charger is constructed using silicon carbide power modules in an integrated all-in-one format, departing from the traditional split system. SK Signet claims this design enables the unit to achieve up to 96.5% power conversion efficiency while reducing the installation footprint by 54% compared to its previous all-in-one model with the same power capacity.

This unique combination is likely to attract charging network operators operating in congested urban areas, forecourts, and retail locations where space constraints hinder expansion plans. The charger is engineered to accommodate multiple vehicles at lower shared power levels while still delivering the full 400kW output for EVs utilizing 800V battery architectures.

SK Signet has indicated that the charger can be configured at 320kW, 360kW, or 400kW, enabling operators to incrementally add modules rather than replacing the entire unit. This approach could help lower upfront capital expenditures, particularly in markets where utilization rates are gradually increasing.

Efficiency and User-Friendly Features

From an engineering standpoint, the focus lies on high-density power conversion, thermal stability, and simplified deployment. The charger incorporates liquid-cooled cables, a swing-arm cable management system, and compatibility with both CCS1 and NACS connectors. It also features a 32-inch touchscreen and supports various payment options such as Plug & Charge, AutoCharge, credit card, and RFID.

The company positions this platform as a leap forward in power density and operational adaptability. Hyungki Cho, CEO of SK Signet, remarked, “The new 400kW All-In-One model is a breakthrough that simultaneously innovates power efficiency, density, and reliability.” He further stated, “As high-power demand surges across the U.S., SK Signet will lead the evolution of ultra-fast charging networks by leveraging our unparalleled technological leadership.”
