Diodes Incorporated has unveiled the PI6CG33A06, a cutting-edge six-output clock generator designed for PCI Express 7.0 systems, while also ensuring compatibility with earlier PCIe generations. This innovative clock generator is targeted at a range of applications including servers, networking equipment, high-performance computing systems, and data center platforms utilized in AI infrastructure. The announcement of the PCIe 7.0 clock generator was made at the prestigious PCI-SIG Developers Conference held in Santa Clara.

The PI6CG33A06 is capable of generating 25 MHz and 100 MHz reference clocks, boasting an impressive RMS jitter performance of below 30 fs. This level of jitter is well below the maximum requirement of 67 fs specified for PCIe 7.0 and even surpasses the 80 fs threshold set by Intel’s CK440Q specification. The clock generator plays a crucial role in providing a stable reference clock for 128.0 GT/s PCIe links, catering to the needs of 800G and 1.6T networking systems, as well as advanced AI accelerators.

With the increasing data rates, maintaining precise timing becomes critical. Diodes emphasizes that the PI6CG33A06 offers a reliable solution to address the stringent timing demands of evolving technologies in the AI infrastructure sector. As highlighted in previous reports by eeNews Europe, the PCIe roadmap continues to elevate both bandwidth and signal-integrity requirements, underscoring the importance of advanced clock generation solutions.

The PI6CG33A06 leverages Diodes’ low-power, high-speed current-steering logic technology featuring integrated termination. By incorporating this technology, the clock generator achieves a significant reduction in clock-related power consumption, surpassing traditional HCSL implementations by at least 50%. Furthermore, the integrated termination eliminates the necessity for up to 24 external resistors, streamlining the bill of materials and simplifying PCB layout complexities.

Each of the six outputs of the clock generator is equipped with an individual output-enable pin, enabling designers to selectively shut down or manage outputs independently. The device is compliant with Intel CK440Q-Lite specifications, facilitating its seamless integration into existing server clock architectures while enhancing timing margin. The PI6CG33A06 is packaged in a compact 40-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm VQFN package, with pricing starting from $2.80 in 3,000-piece quantities, making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for next-generation PCIe systems.
