MotorTrend has unveiled the finalists for the prestigious 2026 Software-Defined Vehicle Innovator Awards, an annual event that spotlights companies at the forefront of shaping the software architectures driving the next generation of vehicles. In collaboration with QNX, a division of BlackBerry Limited, and Vector, the awards will reach their climax at a grand gala event at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.

Among the finalists, there is a diverse mix of 23 companies hailing from the automotive and technology sectors. The lineup includes well-established vehicle manufacturers like Audi, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Honda Motor Co, Mercedes-Benz AG, Tesla, and Toyota Motor North America. Additionally, newer players in the EV space such as Nio, Rivian, and Xiaomi Technology are also in the running.

Not limited to vehicle manufacturers, the finalists also encompass a range of supplier and technology companies. Qualcomm Technologies, LG Electronics, KPIT Technologies, Cummins, Google, Jaguar Land Rover, Motional, SDVerse, and Range Energy are among the notable contenders. MotorTrend emphasizes that the breadth of nominees underscores the increasing significance of software-defined vehicle strategies in areas like powertrain control, infotainment, ADAS, and fleet-level software platforms.

The winners across three distinct categories – Pioneer, Leader, and Expert – will be chosen by a panel of judges comprising MotorTrend’s editorial team. The selection process promises to be rigorous, with each category recognizing excellence in different aspects of software-defined vehicle innovation.

The much-anticipated moment when the 2026 software-defined vehicle innovator awards winners will be announced is set to take place at the fourth annual SDV Innovator Awards Gala. This exclusive event, held in collaboration with QNX and Vector, is scheduled for January 6, 2026, at CES in Las Vegas. MotorTrend views these awards as a platform to acknowledge companies that are revolutionizing automotive development through software-centric design, especially as vehicles increasingly rely on updatable platforms, centralized compute, and cloud-connected services.
