Infineon Technologies has made a significant breakthrough in the realm of USB technology with the development of a cutting-edge 20Gbit/s programmable USB controller, marking a milestone in the industry. The new Infineon EZ-USB FX20 programmable USB controller is specifically designed for applications in AI, image processing, and other emerging technologies.

The key highlight of this innovative controller is its remarkable 20Gbit/s USB interface and LVDS interface, which together boost the total bandwidth by up to six times compared to its predecessor, the 10Gbit/s EZ-USB FX3. This enhancement opens up a world of possibilities for high-speed data transfer and processing capabilities.

Under the hood, the programmable USB controller is powered by two ARM Cortex-M4 and M0+ cores, along with 512 KB Flash, 128 KB SRAM, 128 KB ROM, and seven serial communication blocks (SCBs). Additionally, it features a cryptography accelerator and a high-bandwidth data subsystem that facilitates Direct Memory Access (DMA) data transfers between LVDS/LVCMOS and USB ports at speeds of up to 20 Gbit/s.

Moreover, the controller boasts an extra 1 MB of SRAM dedicated to USB data buffering, ensuring smooth and efficient data transfer operations. With integrated USB-C port orientation detection and flip-mux functionality, external logic is no longer necessary, simplifying the overall design process and reducing the need for additional components.

The compact 10 x 10 mm² BGA package not only minimizes PCB space requirements but also supports direct USB-C connection without the use of a high-speed signal multiplexer, streamlining the design and implementation process for developers. To further aid in the integration process, a quick-start development kit is provided, complete with firmware and a configuration tool for seamless setup.
