Semiconductor Sales Show Steady Increase

In September, semiconductor sales reached $44 billion, marking a 1.9% increase from August's sales of $43.2 billion. However, this figure was 6.8% lower than the total sales recorded in September 2022, which amounted to $47.2 billion, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

During the third quarter, semiconductor sales totaled $134.7 billion, reflecting a 6.3% increase compared to the second quarter of 2023. However, this figure was down 4.5% when compared to the same period in 2022.

"Global semiconductor sales have shown a consistent month-to-month growth for the past six months, indicating a gradual increase in market demand during the middle of the year," stated John Neuffer, President and CEO of SIA. "Although sales in September were lower compared to the previous year, the year-to-year decrease was the smallest since October 2022, providing optimism for continued momentum in the coming months."

Regionally, semiconductor sales experienced month-to-month growth in the Americas (4.6%), China (2.0%), and Asia Pacific/All Other (1.2%). However, sales slightly declined in Japan (-0.4%) and Europe (-1.1%). On a year-to-year basis, sales increased in Europe (3.5%) and the Americas (0.3%), but decreased in Japan (-2.9%), Asia Pacific/All Other (-11.3%), and China (-12.6%).

These figures indicate a positive trend in the semiconductor industry, with steady growth in sales. Despite the year-to-year decrease, the smaller decline compared to previous periods suggests a potential recovery in the market. The regional variations in sales highlight the varying levels of demand across different parts of the world.
