Infineon, a leading semiconductor manufacturer, has unveiled a new high-speed USB peripheral controller designed for devices that connect to a host via USB-C. The controller, named CYUSB4014-BZXI, boasts impressive features including an Arm Cortex-M4 processing core, a Cortex-M0+ core, 1,024kbyte of RAM, and 512kbyte of flash memory.

In addition to USB-C compatibility, the CYUSB4014-BZXI offers LVDS, LVCMOS, and QSPI serial interfaces, as well as a built-in crypto processor. This controller is part of the FX10 family, which consists of four variants. The other three models provide subsets of the aforementioned interfaces, with one variant lacking USB-C support, and different RAM and flash memory configurations.

According to Infineon, the high-bandwidth data subsystem of the CYUSB4014-BZXI enables DMA (direct memory access) data transfers between LVDS/LVCMOS and USB ports at speeds of up to 10Gbit/s. To support efficient data transfer, an additional 1Mbyte of SRAM is included for USB data buffering.

One notable feature of the CYUSB4014-BZXI is its internal USB-C connector orientation detection and flip-mux functionality. This eliminates the need for an external high-speed signal multiplexer, simplifying the design and reducing costs. The controller is packaged in a compact 10 x 10mm BGA form factor.

For developers, Infineon provides a comprehensive development kit that includes firmware, a configuration tool for integration, and hardware for programming and debugging. The kit features a standard FMC (FPGA mezzanine card) connector for easy integration with FPGA boards.

The official launch of the CYUSB4014-BZXI and the entire peripheral controller family will take place at the International Technical Exhibition on Image Technology and Equipment (ITE) in Yokohama next week (06 December). In the meantime, interested individuals can find more information about the CYUSB401x series on Infineon's product page.
