The development of the Custom SoC in an advanced technology node marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between Numem and IC’ALPS. This innovative SoC showcases the Numem high-performance, low-power memory subsystem integrated with a RISC V Processor and AI Accelerator tailored for ultra-low power applications.
The physical implementation of this cutting-edge integrated circuit was carried out in a secure environment, ensuring the protection of sensitive data through isolated locations, networks, servers, and encrypted exchanges. This meticulous approach was essential to meet the stringent security requirements of the program.
Jack Guedj, CEO of Numem, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “We were pleased with the collaboration and quality of service provided by IC’ALPS, which enabled us to achieve an on-time tape out and deliver functional silicon on the first attempt.” Guedj highlighted the unique features of the NuRAM with SmartMem, emphasizing its high performance, compact size (2-3x smaller than SRAM), and significant power efficiency.
The development process was not without its challenges, as Guedj acknowledged the complexities involved in areas such as architecture, power domains, data protection, EDA flow optimization, and meeting tight tape out deadlines. Overcoming these obstacles required a concerted effort and close collaboration between the teams at Numem and IC’ALPS.
Looking ahead, Numem and IC’ALPS are committed to expanding their partnership to undertake new SoC projects for a diverse range of customers. This collaboration sets the stage for future innovations in the semiconductor industry, leveraging the expertise and capabilities of both companies to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
