ARM's market share in Windows is poised for significant growth in the coming years, according to industry experts. In an interview with Reuters ahead of the Computex trade show in Taipei, Taiwan, Haas expressed optimism about ARM's potential, stating, "I think, truly, in the next five years, it could be better than 50 percent."

Microsoft, a long-time user of ARM processors in its Surface computers, is now gearing up to introduce a new range of AI-capable computers based on ARM architecture to rival Apple's offerings. The tech giant is set to leverage Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon X Elite processors, expected to be integrated into various vendors' Windows laptops this year, including Microsoft's latest Surface devices.

Haas commended Microsoft's efforts in embracing ARM as a viable alternative to x86 processors, noting the company's significant progress in developer tools over the past few years. This strategic shift towards ARM comes as Windows has faced a decline in market share compared to Apple's products.

While AMD has historically been a key competitor to Intel in the x86 processor market, Nvidia has primarily focused on supplying GPUs for PCs. However, with the rise of AI processing in data centers, both companies are reportedly exploring the development of ARM-based CPUs for Windows PCs. There are speculations that Nvidia may collaborate with MediaTek Inc. to venture into this domain, building on their existing partnership in AI computing for automobiles.

Moreover, ARM itself is contemplating a foray into the PC processor market, potentially as both a vendor and a licenser of architecture and cores. Reports suggest that ARM Holdings plc is planning to establish an AI chip division and introduce an AI processor for sale in fall 2025. This move, initially aimed at the data center segment, could signal ARM's intention to directly compete with industry giants like Nvidia and AMD in the Windows PC market.
