Weidmüller, a leading provider of industrial connectivity solutions, has introduced a groundbreaking unmanaged switch designed to elevate single pair Ethernet connections to new heights. The innovative 10Base-T1L SPE switch developed by Weidmüller is capable of extending the range of Internet connections to over 1km, utilizing two-wire cables for parallel power transmission.

The challenge of transmitting data over long distances and across various levels is a common hurdle in many industrial applications. In certain scenarios, not only data but also energy needs to be transmitted from the switch to the sensor. Weidmüller's unmanaged 10Base-T1L SPE switch addresses these challenges by ensuring reliable data transmission over distances of up to 1km, a significant improvement compared to the traditional RJ45-based Ethernet with a limited range of 100m.

The performance of the 10Base-T1L SPE switch is remarkable, offering a bandwidth of 10 Mbit/s, which surpasses the capabilities of the RS485 standard over similar distances. The connector face of the SPE connection is specifically designed for industrial use, minimizing the risk of micro-interruptions in transmission and enhancing overall reliability.

In addition to extending the range of Ethernet connections, the 10Base-T1L-SPE switch supports Power over Data Line (PoDL) up to Class 15, enabling a power supply of up to 50 watts to the end device. Advanced features such as SCCP and Forcemode simplify the setup of power supply for new devices, streamlining the installation process.

The SPE technology offered by Weidmüller is ideal for environments with space constraints, as it combines data and power transmission in a single cable, reducing the need for multiple cables. This not only results in cost savings but also facilitates the connection of sensors in diverse industrial settings using copper cables instead of more expensive fiber optic alternatives. Copper cables offer advantages such as larger bending radii and reduced installation effort, eliminating the need for splicing.

Moreover, the Quality of Service (QoS) function integrated into the 10Base-T1L-SPE switch allows for efficient resource distribution within the network, prioritizing data traffic as needed. This ensures that critical applications receive priority, optimizing bandwidth utilization. The switch's QoS feature also ensures PROFINET Class A conformity, enabling seamless integration with PROFINET-compatible networks.
