Lime Microsystems in the UK is using the latest Compute Module 5 (CM5) from Raspberry Pi to boost the performance of its 5G basestation in a box

The LimeNET Micro 2.0 board is being upgraded from CM4 to the long awaited CM5, launched on Wednesday with several companies already supporting the module.

  • Raspberry Pi readies CM5 module
  • Lime taps CM4 for 5G small cells

The CM4 allowed LimeNET Micro 2.0 to support 5G NR TDD SISO operation with 10MHz RF bandwidth. With the higher performance of the 2.4GHz Broadcom BCM2712 CM5 the board is now able to support FDD 2×2 MIMO with 20MHz bandwidth and still able to run a 5G Core network also on the Compute Module, for fully self-contained operation.

All new orders placed for LimeNET Micro 2.0, LimeNET Micro 2.0 Developer Edition and the LimePSB RPCM which these are based upon will be compatible with CM5. The company expects orders placed for the board from January 2025 onwards is expected ship with CM5 fitted as standard.
