Amber Semiconductor is set to unveil a groundbreaking power conversion technology designed specifically for datacentres, promising to significantly reduce the energy losses associated with AI chips. The innovative solution will be showcased at the 2025 Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC), where attendees will witness a demonstration that eliminates conversion steps by delivering power directly from 50VDC to 0.8VDC to the AI chip located on the motherboard of a datacentre server. Notably, this technology is scalable to over 1500A and boasts an impressive efficiency rating of over 90%.

Amber Semiconductor has recently secured its first two customers, marking a significant milestone for the company. Additionally, they have entered into a custom power deal with industry giant Infineon, solidifying their position as a key player in the power conversion sector. Looking ahead, Amber Semi is collaborating with Delta to explore the possibility of achieving direct conversion from 48V to 0.7V, further expanding the scope of their innovative solutions. Moreover, the establishment of the Power Stamp Alliance underscores their commitment to advancing 48V direct power conversion technologies.

Thar Casey, the CEO of Amber Semiconductor, highlighted the pressing energy crisis facing datacentres, particularly in light of their increasing reliance on power-hungry AI processing. He emphasized that data centres are projected to account for a significant portion of U.S. power consumption by 2030, underscoring the urgent need for more efficient power solutions. With the relentless advancement of AI technologies and the escalating power demands they entail, traditional power architectures are struggling to keep pace, creating a pressing need for innovative solutions like those offered by Amber Semi.

Casey further explained that Amber Semiconductor is taking a holistic approach to addressing power challenges, focusing on optimizing the entire system architecture rather than isolated components. By leveraging a combination of cutting-edge technologies in power conversion, control systems, semiconductor processes, and material science, Amber Semi aims to revolutionize the power ecosystem. Their forward-thinking strategies include the development of 800VDC architectures and 48V/50V intermediate bus voltages, tailored to meet the diverse needs of industries ranging from factories to automotive systems.

As Amber Semiconductor continues to pioneer new solutions for enhanced power transmission, the industry can expect to see significant advancements in efficiency and reliability. By reimagining power distribution and conversion processes, Amber Semi is poised to lead the way in transforming the power landscape for datacentres, factories, and beyond, ushering in a new era of sustainable and efficient power solutions.
