DWave Expands European Presence with 10M SQT Deal

D-Wave Quantum Inc. has solidified its presence in Europe through a €10 million partnership with Swiss Quantum Technology SA (SQT) to introduce an Advantage2 quantum computer in Italy. This new quantum system from D-Wave will play a crucial role in supporting Italy’s Q-Alliance initiative and advancing quantum computing research and commercialization efforts across Europe.

This agreement signifies a significant milestone in Europe’s quantum technology expansion, blending hardware innovation with digital transformation objectives. It also highlights the increasing commercial viability of quantum annealing in addressing real-world industrial and scientific challenges.

Enhancing Quantum Access in Europe

Unveiled during the Digital Innovation Forum – ComoLake 2025, the deal includes an option for SQT to acquire the Advantage2 system outright. Once operational, customers will be able to access the machine through D-Wave’s Leap™ real-time quantum cloud service, enabling research institutions, businesses, and startups throughout Europe to execute quantum and hybrid quantum applications.

The Advantage2 system represents D-Wave’s most advanced quantum processor to date, boasting over 4,400 qubits. It is engineered to address optimization and AI problems that surpass the capabilities of traditional computing systems. Moreover, its energy-efficient design aligns with the increasing emphasis on sustainability in advanced computing, a priority for both public and private sectors.

Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave, expressed that this partnership is a significant step in expanding the company’s presence in Europe. This deployment will also be instrumental in supporting Italy’s Q-Alliance initiative, which seeks to establish a robust European ecosystem for quantum computing research and commercialization. By hosting one of D-Wave’s production-grade systems, Italy reinforces its position as a regional center for quantum innovation and collaboration.
