Advanced 4kW IGBT Power Modules for Industrial Motor Drives

Infineon Technologies has introduced a cutting-edge intelligent power module (IPM) series designed for industrial motor drives up to 4kW, featuring the latest IGBT power devices.

The Infineon CIPOS Maxi Intelligent Power Module (IPM) series is a groundbreaking development that combines 7th generation 1220V TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 transistors with an EmCon 7 diode and a 6-channel gate driver for three-phase control. This innovative design aims to enhance reliability, optimize PCB size, and reduce overall system cost.

The portfolio comprises three new products in various configurations, ranging from 10 A to 20 A, capable of handling power ratings of up to 4.0 kW. The models include IM12B10CC1, IM12B15CC1, and IM12B20EC1.

The IM12BxxxC1 series comes in a compact DIP 36x23D housing, making it the smallest package available for 1200 V IPMs while offering the highest power density. Targeted primarily at low-power drives, this IPM is ideal for applications such as motors, pumps, fans, heat pumps, and outdoor fans used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

One of the key features of the new IPM series is its isolated dual-in-line molded housing, which enhances both thermal performance and electrical isolation. The IPM meets stringent requirements for EMI and overload protection in demanding designs and includes an independent UL-certified temperature thermistor for added safety.

The CIPOS Maxi integrates a robust 6-channel SOI gate driver that incorporates built-in dead time to safeguard against damage from transients. It is equipped with under-voltage lockout across all channels and over-current shutdown capabilities. The IPM's multi-function pin enables high design flexibility for a wide range of applications, with easy access to low side emitter pins for phase current monitoring.
