UK distributor Anglia has hit out at Analog Devices (ADI) after losing its franchise. The company this year started supplying customers in Europe as well as the UK.

Whilst acknowledging that ADI is perfectly within its rights to terminate its agreements with Anglia and two other regional EMEA distributors, the company says the decision will have a negative impact on customer choice.

The move comes as distributors in Europe are seeing significant additional inventory and reduces revenues, leading to a restructure at Arrow, while semiconductor companies are taking more of the business back in-house.

“Not everyone wants to buy everything from a global ‘supermarket’ where the only service you can expect is ‘self-service’,” said Steve Rawlins, CEO  Distributors such as Anglia offer customer-driven commercial, logistic and technical programs that the global giants – which are run by accountants and who must satisfy the short-term needs of their shareholders – can not. Anglia is able to invest in stock and employ FAEs to support customer designs. These services are valued by customers.”

Anglia has been the main regional distributor for ADI, alongside Semitron in Germany for power devices.

“Although we are saddened by ADI’s decision, we have been in business for over 50 years, and are able to react very quickly to changing situations,” said Rawlins. “Therefore, our customers can be reassured to hear that we have plans already in place to support them. Of course, we are also in advanced discussions with alternative manufacturers, and we invite others who wish to engage with a strong and trusted demand-creation partner that believes in committing to a relationship with a focused supplier base to get in touch. We expect to be able to make more positive announcements in the very near future.

ADI has been approached for comment.
