When it comes to connectors, even the smallest details can make a big difference. One such detail is the color of the connector, which can have practical implications in different applications.
Binder, a company known for its innovative solutions, initially introduced a 12-pin Easy Locking Connector (ELC) in grey for homecare applications to easily identify any contamination. However, due to increasing demand, they have now developed a black variant of the shock- and vibration-resistant ELC 570 series connector specifically for industrial use.
With a snap-in locking mechanism and an asymmetrical hexagonal contour in the plug section, this cable connector ensures high operational safety and a long service life. The housing, ergonomically designed and made of durable PA66 plastic, adds to its robustness.
The decision to create a black version of the connector was driven by industry feedback. Jana Wagner, Product Manager at binder, explains, “While light gray is suitable for homecare settings where contamination needs to be easily recognizable, black is preferred in industrial environments where immediate contamination detection is not a primary concern.”
Not only does the Easy Locking Connector offer IP67 protection even when unmated, but it also provides robust M12 connectors suitable for rail and transport applications. Its design, with a snap-in locking mechanism and asymmetrical hexagonal contour, ensures easy handling and prevents incorrect mating for up to 5000 cycles.
For applications that require frequent plugging and unplugging, such as display connectivity in industrial settings, the Easy Locking Connector proves to be a reliable choice. Its high number of mating cycles, IP protection rating, and intuitive operation make it ideal for scenarios where efficiency and durability are paramount.
Moreover, the connector's design includes features like a release tool for reopening after assembly and IP54 protection for the flange socket against dust and splashing water from all sides, even when unplugged. This eliminates the need for additional protective measures, saving time and costs for end customers.
Wagner highlights the versatility of the connector, stating, “A prime example of an industrial application is display connectivity, allowing machine statuses to be easily retrieved. Here, a high number of mating cycles, IP protection rating, and intuitive operation are key factors.”
For ease of device installation, various sealing options are available to facilitate flexible mounting. Whether using an O-ring or a flat gasket, the design eliminates the need for a housing recess, providing a more streamlined and efficient solution for users.
