Bosch, a global leader in technology and services, has recently announced a significant change in leadership for its subsidiary, Five AI, which was acquired in 2022. Dieter Hoetzer has been appointed as the new Vice President of the Business Unit ADAS Systems, Software & Services, effectively stepping into the role of CEO at Five AI's headquarters in Cambridge.

Prior to his new position, Hoetzer held key roles at Bosch, including Head of Product Area Localization in Leonberg, Germany, and vice president of development for the automated driving business unit. His extensive experience in the automotive industry makes him well-suited to lead Five AI in its mission to advance virtual testing of assisted and autonomous driving technology.

Five AI, founded by Stan Boland, has been at the forefront of developing algorithms that enable autonomous vehicles to perceive their surroundings using data from various sensors such as cameras, RADAR, LIDAR, IMU, and GPS. The company's focus also extends to creating algorithms that ensure safe driving decisions in situations where perception information may be uncertain.

Stan Boland, the former CEO of Five AI until November 2023, has a track record of successful ventures, having previously founded companies like Icera, Neul, and Element14. Under his leadership, Five AI has made significant strides in the field of autonomous driving technology, particularly in the realm of machine learning algorithms.

One of the key challenges that Five AI is tackling is the perception problem, which involves developing advanced computer vision and machine learning techniques. This includes research in areas such as odometry, localization, scene and object reconstruction, shape retrieval, object detection, tracking, and segmentation in sequences of images and point clouds.
