Ariel Motor, a renowned automotive manufacturer based in the UK, has recently introduced an innovative fully-electric prototype version of its popular 'go-anywhere' sportscar. The new model, named the e-Nomad, is an off-road EV concept car that boasts impressive performance capabilities.

The e-Nomad is equipped with a powerful 41kW, 450V battery pack and a rear integrated motor, gearbox, and inverter unit that delivers a maximum power output of 210kW (281bhp). Surprisingly, the electric version can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds, matching the performance of its petrol counterpart.

Weighing in at 896kg, the e-Nomad features a bodywork made from a natural fibre bio-composite material that is both recyclable and enhances aerodynamic efficiency. This design allows the vehicle to achieve a range of up to 150 miles (240km), making it a practical and eco-friendly option for off-road enthusiasts.

Simon Saunders, Director of Ariel Motor, expressed excitement about the e-Nomad, stating, "While the E-Nomad is a concept, it does show production intent for the vehicle and hints at just a small part of Ariel’s future." He also mentioned the possibility of adding the e-Nomad to the company's lineup based on customer feedback.

The development of the e-Nomad's experimental bodywork was made possible through collaborations with Rockfort Engineering and Bamd Composites, supported by grants from the UK's Department of Trade and the Niche Vehicle Network. The use of cloud-based Bramble CFD software enabled Ariel to optimize the vehicle's aerodynamics, resulting in a 30% reduction in drag while maintaining downforce and balance.
