Imaging Development Systems (IDS) has unveiled its latest offering featuring Sony's IMX662 1/2.45 inch 2.16 Mpixel sensor, available in both colour and monochrome cameras. The U3-38C0XCP model is housed in a compact 29 x 29 x 17mm zinc die-cast casing with an integrated C-mount lens holder, providing a versatile solution for various imaging applications.
According to IDS, the sensors from Sony's Starvis 2 series are engineered for exceptional light sensitivity. The company has enhanced the performance of this rolling shutter sensor by incorporating an anti-reflection coating, resulting in improved image quality. This technological advancement ensures that users can capture clear and detailed images even in challenging lighting conditions.
For seamless connectivity, the U3-38C0XCP camera utilizes the U3V protocol for communication via a USB 3.0 Micro B connector, offering high-speed data transfer rates of up to 5Gbit/s. Users can achieve a maximum frame rate of 93 frames per second at a resolution of 1,968 x 1,100 pixels, allowing for smooth and precise image capture. The exposure settings can be adjusted within a range of 9μs to 2s, providing flexibility in capturing images under varying lighting conditions.
Power is supplied through the USB connector, with power consumption ranging from 0.5 to 1.2W. Additionally, a secondary 8-pin connector provides USB 5V at 400mA, 3.3V output, a flash output, a trigger input (which can be activated via software), and two GPIOs, enhancing the camera's versatility and compatibility with different systems.
IDS offers a monochrome variant and two colour variants of the U3-38C0XCP camera. Electronics Weekly has reached out to IDS to inquire about the distinctions between the two colour versions, highlighting the company's commitment to providing comprehensive information to potential users. Moreover, IDS has introduced a housing-less bare board series, including the U3-38C2XLS model, available in both monochrome and colour options, measuring a compact 29 x 29 x 7mm. Referred to as the XCP and XLS series by IDS, these models are part of a broader range that includes cameras with different sensors, catering to diverse imaging requirements up to 20Mpixel.
